The Art of Asking

I love this Amanda Palmer TED talk!  Although on one level she’s proposing people should be allowed, rather than made, to pay for their music, this is about so much more.  It’s about being vulnerable enough to reach out, to connect, to ask and be willing to receive in return. It’s not about charity or being weak, but reaching out which in turn gives others the blessing of giving, and the permission to in turn, reach out and ask for help as needed.

It’s about putting yourself neither higher nor lower than those around you, no matter what their economic or social standing. It’s about recognising the humanness, the common quality in all of us, and being brave enough to say, “Here I am. I trust you. Help me.  Allow me to help you through acceptance and trust.”

I greatly admire how she is standing in her own power, choosing how she interacts with life in her own terms, but in a soul-felt, grounded, gritty way that creates more than it depletes. She genuinely ‘sees’ people, and through that sight, connects.
